My daughter Alexa became a Bat Mitzvah last November, and it was an amazing weekend from start to finish. Since Alexa has a large number of friends from school, camp, and travel soccer, we decided a separate kids’ party would work best. Since we were having a large extended kiddush luncheon after her service, and her date fell on the weekend before Thanksgiving (a week when there was no school), we decided to have the kids’ party on Sunday night.
Alexa wanted to incorporate our last name (Turner) into her theme, and after a ton of brainstorming we came up with “Alexa Turns It Up.” I created her logo and invitations (2 different invitations, plus a separate insert for those invited to both events). I learned that girls are MUCH pickier than boys (my son’s Bar Mitzvah was in 2014) and must have created 50 different versions of logos and invitations before she was happy. We were both thrilled with how they turned out.
Thanks to the incredible Lisa Adler/Skylan and Faces by Nikki for doing hair and make-up on 3 separate days (the photos were during the rehearsal the week prior). They were both so awesome to work with, and made us look and feel fabulous! We used the unbelievable Tell Draper and his terrific son TJ for photos. They were the amazing team at my son’s Bar Mitzvah 3 years before, and I hired them the next day for Alexa’s without even knowing her exact date to make sure Tell was not booked. They photographed Alexa’s rehearsal, kiddush luncheon, and kids’ parties and aside from the pictures being stunning, they are just amazing to work with!
Pear Tree Catering did an amazing job catering the Kiddush luncheon. They took care of absolutely everything and were a pleasure to work with both before and during the event. Laurie Gens at Michael’s was the best! So easy to work with, and it was clear from the start that she would do whatever it took to ensure Alexa’s happiness. We did not need a separate planner because Laurie took care of absolutely everything! The rest of the staff at Michael’s went above and beyond to ensure Alexa’s event was perfect. Thanks to Balloon Lab for taking our idea for centerpieces and making them a reality!
Energy was the 2nd vendor that I rehired immediately following my son’s event. Brad Blumenthal was the emcee and kept everyone engaged and partying from start to finish. My kids are VERY different and Brad totally got that; Alexa still tells me whenever she comes home from a mitzvah that did not have Brad that she wishes he was there because there’s no one else like him!
Finally, Jamie Struck was fantastic to work with for favors. She took the time to get me the best quality sweatpants at the best price, and her service was stellar. I still hear from Alexa’s friends all the time that the sweatpants are their favorite favor and that they live in them!
Thanks so much to everyone who helped make Alexa’s Mitzvah weekend one we will never forget!”
